LOCATION The Stratford Mining Complex is located 95km north of Newcastle in the Gloucester Basin. MINING OPERATION Stratford first began production in June 1995 and employs around 120 people. The Stratford open cut operations extract coal from upper and middle seams within the Gloucester Basin. Mining operations temporarily ceased at Stratford in 2014. The Stratford Extension Project was granted State and Federal approval in 2015 and this project commenced in April 2018. The Stratford CHPP continues to receive coal from the nearby Duralie operations. COAL PREPARATION Run Of Mine (ROM) coal from the Duralie and Stratford coal mines is processed at the centralised Stratford Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP). The CHPP blends ROM coals for processing. TRANSPORTATION Coal is railed to the Port of Newcastle.
